The drift strategy that I used was "less is more." What I mean by this is that, I didn't have enough time to carefully think this through because I thought someone stole my kit for the class. So I picked two destinations that I was already familiar with, and walked from one to the other. I started at Bayshore Mall, and ended my drift at UWM. Much of my walk was on Lake Drive at night. I wanted to capture nature on the lake front but not too many interesting sounds occurred. Instead I captured a food store, a lake, and a Qdoba.

Qdoba Mexican Grill

I chose to record my first sound in the doorway of a Qdoba (the circle on the map.) I recorded these sounds between 6-6:30. There were not that many people there, so one could hear the background music over the people as I was leaving. As I walked out, I felt the cool breeze of the night air and looked around at the buildings around me, the BP station across the street, the shoe store and Hollywood Video next to it. It was very colorful to the eye.

Outside Sendiks Foods

I recorded the second sound as I was walking past a Sendiks Food store in Whitefish Bay. This sound occurred right after I stepped in a puddle. But, thanks to the miracle of editing we have the second sound posted. It was getting darker and darker as my drift continued, and the Sendiks was only a little ways down from where I recorded my first sound. I walked from the sidewalk to the side parking lot then into the store. I used the same method of recording that I used for all of the sounds: I clipped both mics to my shoulders with paper clips. Needless to say, I got some strange looks.

Inside Sendiks Foods

This third sound was recorded within the grocery store. My main purpose for going into the Sendiks was to warm up after walking for a little while. I was glad that I went in, because I found out two things: (1)grocery stores have many sounds that one can choose from if they are recording properly, and (2)Sendiks does not carry absinthe liquor. Everything in the store was very colorful. This night they received a lot of products in from shipping. As i walked around in the store, I continued to get strange looks for having mics attached to my shoulders via paper clips.

Big Bay Park

This sound recording was easier for me humaliation-wise, but harder condition-wise. There were no people in the park to give me looks about my mics, but I had not gone inside for a while to warm myself up. I chose this spot because in the summer it is a beautiful site, overlooking the lake. But I also had feelings of jealousy walking down Lake Drive, mainly because the houses were so big.

Atwater Park

After the first park, I kept asking myself "how far now?" After a while I couldn't feel my fingers even though i had gloves on. I checked my watch: it was 8:30, and I hadn't gotten any sounds since the first park stop. My Dad drove by and I warmed up for a bit in his car. Afterwards, he told me about a spot by the lake on Capitol and Lake Drive. After I warmed up, I continued walking to the park. I originally recorded some more of the lake, but i wanted something different. I remembered that I could manipulate the enviroment and that is what I did. All i needed was my foot and a park bench. Shortly after i recorded my last sound I walked back to UWM, looking ridiculous with my cold red nose and mic's hanging from my sholders, but I was warm. I didn't care.
